OSCAR

OFF SHORE CLIMBING ASSISTANT RETRACTABLE

A 25m stainless steel retractable fall arrester block.

The block is coated in a tough bitumen based layer that is water tight making the block impervious to salt, saline and oil environments.

All internal components are made of stainless steel and bronze to prevent corrosion should any water enter during use. The funnel shaped entrance and rubber stopper on the wire prevents spray and water entering the block when it is not in use.

A specially treated cord to prevent marine growth such as algae and molluscs is attached to the end termination so the wire can be pulled down to the boat.

The block has a built in fall indicator at the end termination to assist in visual examination before attaching to the wire.

In accordance with the standard EN 360, conventional fall arrester blocks allow a maximum fall distance of 1.7m. This distance will actually increase the risk of the user being injured between the vessel and the ladder.

OSCAR has succeeded in reducing the maximum length of a fall as far as possible, to 0.7 meter with a
maximum load of 136kg, ANSI test, and a reduction of the impact force on the user to only 4.4 kN, being compared with the technical standards maximum 6 kN.

When correctly used, the end goal for the unit is to remain operational and maintenance-free throughout the life of a wind turbine.

At present it can be documented that the unit is maintenance free for five years. Continuous tests are being done to prolong this time.

 

ACC

A silent alternative to the PME, the ACC is a battery power ascender for use in confined spaces and indoors.
